SKISA in partnership with the Art of Living Foundation, and our Sponsors: DUT, General Cable Phoenix SA, Anitha D Chetty & Associates proudly hosted our first Global Youth Focus Workshop: Date: 8 August 2011 Venue: DUT Our aim was to bring together children and youth from various communities, backgrounds and organisations thereby giving them the opportunity to interact and create a sense of belongingness. Through the various activities planned as well as addresses by well known personalities the workshop promoted the following aspects:
- Human Values
- Harmony in Diversity
- Sport for Youth Development
- Communication and Social Skills
- Leadership
- Relaxation Techniques to release stress
- Health and Diet
- Vital non-academic skills: art of making friends, handling fear, anger and negative emotions
200 Children and Youth from the following homes and organisations attended the Workshop: Uthombo Street Children JDA Children - Wenthworth ABH Children's Home St. Philomennas Children's Home St. Monica's Home William Clark's Home Sai Group -Phoenix Chatsworth Youth Centre Phoenix Child & Family Welfare Society Children's Foundation SKISA The children thoroughly enjoyed the various activities which included a karate workshop, yoga, breathing and relaxation techniques, song and dance and motivational talks by leading personalities. They were also treated to a sumptuous lunch.
It is also our intention to host the Youth Workshop annually and form strong partnerships with government, corporates and various other stakeholders thereby ensuring the continuity, sustainability and success of the workshop.
