Gift of the Givers and SKISA takes Karate to Township Children 2011
Global disaster management organisation the GIFT OF THE GIVERS FOUNDATION and world renowned SKISA karate org recently jointly arranged a karate workshop for children from the informal bottle brush settlement on the border of Shallcross and Chatsworth in Kwa Zulu Natal
More than 200 township children who attend the Brooklyn Heights Primary school received their first karate lesson from 2 time world champion Japanese maestro Murakami assisted by South Africa's karate legend Kyoshi Sonny Pillay and Protea Njabulo Khumalo (Ntuzuma township)
SKIF honorary black belt and SKISA honorary lifetime patron his worship the Deputy Mayor of Durban joined in the action after officially welcoming the participants ,educators and various sporting legends who graced the historical occasion (2nd may 2011)
Special mention must be made of the warm welcome afforded to the organisers by the co-ordinator of the program Raj Maharaj, principal and staff of Brooklyn Heights Primary school.
The principal later elaborated on the shocking level of poverty amongst the children (from school Brooklyn Heights ) many of whom came to school on an empty stomach having been abandoned by their parents.
The principal was most grateful to SKISA and gift of the givers for choosing Brooklyn Heights Primary school for the said workshop today is a milestone in the history of our school graced by the presence of a world champion master Murakami, our deputy Mayor Logie Naidoo, SKISA Honorary Life Patron Richard Naidoo ,South Africa's Sports Legends Kyoshi Sonny Pillay, Sugar Ray Xulu and Vincent Moodley (amongst many others )
Dr Sooliman (a giant amongst men) founder of the Gift of the Givers org ensured that all the township children from the previously disadvantaged and underprivileged communities were appropriately dressed by sponsoring sets of Bafana Bafana shorts and t-shirts.
In addition Dr Sooliman founder of the Gift of the Givers org organised his catering team who provided above all a hearty meal with refreshments at the conclusion of the youth development workshop "a hungry child is a angry child "said Kyoshi Pillay and that’s why at these workshops for our township children we always ensure all participants are well fed and don’t return home hungry
President of SKISA Kyoshi Sonny Pillay further added that with the meaningful 3year partnership of the Gift of the Givers foundation he expected to continue (through similar workshops) the legacy of world karate legend grandmaster Kanazawa of using karate as a medium to improve the lives of the youth from the downtrodden and poor communities of our rainbow nation.
